In this article we explain how thermal blinds work along with some tips to know which one to buy.

When it comes to keeping our home at a stable temperature, apart from heating or air conditioning systems, there are other resources such as thermal curtains. These help maintain the temperature generated inside the room and prevent heat from escaping through the window in winter or the sun’s rays from heating up the room in summer. There are also thermal blinds and shutters that, although they vary in design, fulfill a similar function. But before purchasing one of these products, it is important to know how they work.

What is a thermal shutter
Unlike traditional PVC blinds that let air in and out easily, thermal blinds have a frame made of aluminum with a foam-filled interior that helps isolate the temperature of the room, and they are also acoustic insulation. Another similar element is thermal blinds, which combine PVC and glass, two insulating materials that achieve the same effect as blinds.

What is a thermal shutter made of?
These models, unlike the traditional ones, are made with several layers of insulating materials. Although there are models with two or four layers, the most common is that they have three different fabrics.

An inner part made of traditional fabrics such as cotton, linen or polyester
A layer in the middle that is usually thicker cotton, felt, flannel, foam, or other insulating material.
A final layer that protects from sunlight and frees the room from the condensation generated by the windows. This part of the blind is usually made of cotton or vinyl.

What are the advantages of buying thermal curtains
It is a product that works throughout the year and complements the function of heating devices, but also that of an air conditioner or a fan. While in winter it will prevent the heat generated inside the house from escaping, in summer it blocks the sun’s rays that overheat the interior of the home.

Its efficiency can be seen reflected in the electricity bill, which can be reduced by up to 50% during the winter. In summer, on the other hand, these accessories can lower the temperature of the house by up to three degrees. They also allow to reduce humidity and condensation levels in the home.

Which option is more convenient to buy
Most customers opt for roller blinds whose system consists of a box, guides, type of slats (in this case thermal) and type of conditioning, which can be manual or mechanical.

Another important factor to take into account is the measurements since we are going to install these thermal shutters in the same place where other traditional types were previously located, so they have to fit into the corresponding space. This will mean that sometimes we even have to make them to measure.
