Doubts with the Christmas decoration? An architect explains to us how to put the Christmas tree

Christmas is already around the corner. The copious lunches and dinners, the extra kilos, the gifts and, of course, the decoration of the house arrive. In this task, which can sometimes seem very complicated, the architect Jaime Salvá leads us by the hand, who even draws up a plan, as a good architect, so that all the concepts are clear.

This map is the one that they have used in their study to congratulate Christmas, but we thought it was such a good idea that we wanted to ask them some questions about the matter: tinsel yes or no? Is the situation this year to abuse lights? What can we leave to the Magi and their reindeer that is rich and healthy at the same time?

Let’s go with it. With regard to the tree, Salvá recommends a 1.80 cm tree that should be located at a minimum of 1.80 m. away from the chimney, to avoid accidents. Regarding the tree lights, the architect recommends not exceeding 20 watts of power: “The best are LED lights that consume the least. I recommend warm tones for the light, they are more welcoming ”, says Salvá.

Between the lower branches of the tree and the ground there should be about 30 cm of distance so that the Kings or Santa Claus, according to tastes, can comfortably place their gifts. Likewise, the architect recommends balls with a diameter of 85 millimeters and that the angel or star placed at the top of the tree be fixed with Fisher plugs with, of course, CE marking or similar.

Regarding the decorative elements, the architect advises to use elements of nature (which can be pine cones, nuts, branches …): “This way we save money and get a more original and personalized decoration,” he adds. The more natural and less plastic, the better.

If you have a fireplace, the one where Santa Claus comes down to leave gifts, you will also have to take care of decorating it, what do we advise you? Salvá recommends that the socks that you use so that their Majesties of the East or the lord in red leave you the gifts be used, for that of the circular economy.

Be careful: we say used but CLEAN, an important detail unless you want them to leave you coal. Regarding the provisioning for the gift distributors, Salvá recommends “Milk and Maria cookies”. We know, cookies are ultra-processed and they are not healthy at all, but a day is a day … right?

Regarding the fireplace, Salvá comments on the following: “If you do not have a smoke outlet, there are other alternative systems such as electric fireplaces or bioethanol fireplaces that can provide the warmth of the fire without requiring the extraction of smoke or dirtying the house with firewood. To heat the house, it depends on the facilities of the house, but the important thing is that the heat that can be generated inside, whatever the system, does not go out. In this sense, the house has to be very well insulated, control the openings of exterior doors and windows, and it is important to have exterior carpentry with double glazing, double glazing, and thermal bridge break ”.

And with this you already have all the information so that your Christmas decoration is attractive and also professional.
