What is visual noise?
Visual noise is “everything that is visually unpleasant to us from an aesthetic point of view”, they explain from the Madrid School of Decoration. It is an instinctive reaction to the crowded, messy and unsightly, which makes us uncomfortable and unpleasant.

Do you have the feeling that your home does not give off harmony on an aesthetic level? Either due to saturation of elements or due to disorder, you need to remedy it as soon as possible. Why? Visual noise is not something that only influences the impact that a room generates on you, it also influences your own well-being. According to experts, visual noise can cause headaches, bad moods and attention disorders.

7 keys to reduce visual noise at home
1- Avoid clutter: keep everything in its place
Whenever we come home from the street, we usually leave our bag, backpack or briefcase on the sofa or table in the living room, our jacket hanging on a chair, our shoes on the floor, the letters from the mailbox in the hall…

Get used to putting everything in its place first, so you won’t have to go picking up the house every two by three. You will save a lot of time! In addition, these small elements will not hinder the visual peace of your house.

2- Choose a decoration style
The room must be decorated as a whole. The ideal is to place furniture of the same color and type, textiles to match the decoration or colors that follow a harmony. Choose a style of decoration and try to ensure that the entire room responds to this style: minimalist, modern, rustic, Nordic, industrial…

3- Eliminate unnecessary objects
Side tables that you don’t use, shelves full of objects that you didn’t even remember existed, paintings on all the walls, decorative objects in every free space… Get rid of all the unnecessary elements that are creating a feeling of an overloaded environment. Less is more!

4- Hide cables
Cables are a very unsightly element, so if you can hide them, all the better. The television cables, the chargers, the computer cables, the power strip with all the plugs… Try to hide them inside the furniture or in gutters installed on the skirting board or under the TV.

5- Save what you do not use daily
Why do you have things lying around that you never use? It happens to all of us.

It’s okay, you don’t have to get rid of every item, you never know when you might need it, but at least keep it somewhere so it’s out of sight. Think of closed storage furniture to store objects (the console, old television controls, books, letters, magazines, photo albums, toys…).

A good idea is to do a thorough cleaning of the items you don’t need, throw away or donate the ones you don’t want, and keep the ones you prefer to stay in a place that is out of sight. Do the same from time to time to preserve order at home.

6 – Light correctly
Light is very important when it comes to creating a harmonious and spacious environment. Choosing the light that best corresponds to each room to give a greater sensation of spaciousness is key to obtaining a good result. Imagine a perfectly organized and decorated room, but without windows and with poor lighting… It’s useless! Choosing good lighting will enhance the aesthetics of your home.

7 – Get rid of trademarks
It is not a good idea to leave bottles, packages or bags in the middle, both in the kitchen and in any room in the house. Avoid having brand containers around the house, as it will hinder the visual peace of the environment. Opt to save food packages and place it in jars or put water bottles in jugs, for example.
