How often should bedding be changed and washed?

Sheets, pillows… how often do you have to wash this so that germs and bacteria don’t eat you alive?

That great mystery, how often you have to wash the bedding… From today you will have it solved, keep reading.

Our first advice: after the purchase, always wash the bedding (bed and any other clothes). This way you eliminate chemical residues and the dust that may have accumulated in storage, transport, etc.

But let’s assume that the sheets are not new, how often to wash them? Experts say that the ideal would be to wash the sheets weekly. What doesn’t life give you? Well, the maximum term would be two weeks, better not to go beyond that: we must bear in mind that when we sleep, our body sheds dead cells… which are perfect food for mites. In addition there may also be fungi, traces of makeup…

So now you know: once a week would be ideal. If the sheets are white, the ideal way to keep them clean is to wash them with water and neutral soap at a temperature between 70 and 60 degrees. Does the washing machine remove all those bugs we were talking about? Well, we are sorry to tell you that no, many are resistant to these washes even with hot water, so the most advisable thing is to put those bedding in the dryer later and half an hour would be more than enough to finish them off.

Don’t you have a dryer? Nothing happens: lying in the sun, with direct sunlight, works great too and you also save on electricity rates.

Another detail: remember that mites and bacteria remain in the washing machine after washing, so it doesn’t hurt that at least a couple of times a year, if not more (everything will depend on its frequency of use) clean this appliance, in addition this will lengthen its useful life.

We continue: and the pillows? Yes, my friend, the pillows are also washed and if you have seen that yours accumulates yellow stains (we all think of Homer Simpson drooling when seeing those horrible yellowish stains) the best thing is to almost throw it away. Note: if the pillow has a natural filling, you should take it to the dry cleaner. If that padding is synthetic, you can wash them between 40 and 60 degrees but it never hurts to look at the label to avoid screwing up.

To dry it, if you have a dryer you have it easy: put it on low temperature and that’s it. If not, now in summer you can take advantage of the outside temperature to do it, although you will have to turn the pillow so that it dries everywhere.
