With little money you can make a few small changes in your kitchen to make it more comfortable in your day to day and in this way, get more out of it. Let’s go with some ideas to take advantage of cabinets, countertops and even walls.

Wardrobe
We start with the cabinets and the need to take advantage of empty spaces (ceiling, floor and corners) to gain capacity. For example, add roof modules. You need 40 cm free on the cabinets: in that place you can store what you use little and thus clear the rest of the cabinets. Better, folding opening.

If your floor cabinets are 30 cm wide, change some for a 1-drawer and 2-drawer chest, you will see that they are very comfortable.

In the cabinets, put a cabinet door, which will allow you to see everything at a glance. Of course, that is not next to the plate because if you cook a lot, you will spend your days cleaning them.

If you have 15 cm free, place a removable grid module for oil, wines, the spaces … If you have a hole, increase your work surface by fixing a folding table with plates to the worktop or to the wall. You can have one for 40 euros.

Take advantage of the low sink with removable baskets that can be screwed to the sides. If you have a hole, you can put a top drawer.

There are also solutions that will help you multiply the space of the cabinets and allow you to have them more organized. You can add shelves, leaving at least 25 cm between them. If you don’t want to put fixed bars you can use shelves with lateral supports. If you put a 3-high rack organizer, you can put the dishes on top of each other. For large utensils, put pots and pans in the base cabinets in removable organizers. If the closet has a lot of depth you can put a rotating carousel, which is perfect because it will take advantage of every corner. Corner drawers, for example, double the storage.

A trick so that the drawers are not a tótum revolutum: organize them in containers of different sizes and square or rectangular shapes: you have dividers from 3 euros.

Walls
Put a steel backsplash or vinyl to protect the wall from grease when cooking. The steel ones are fixed with silicone. Adhesive vinyls just stick. To take advantage of the walls, you can fix organizer rails for spices, hang baskets … You will gain space without realizing it. Also, if you have a wall without tiles, you can paint it with black chalkboard paint and use it to jot down your shopping list, menu, etc.

Worktop
Pull-outs are perfect when space is tight. There are folding ones that you can use as bars or unfold them to turn them into tables up to a meter deep. You can add a multi-purpose bar if you lack a countertop. You can use it to eat, it also adds a work surface … Find a free hole next to the wall to anchor the bar: you will need at least 30 cm deep and 80 long.

If you want to save in the long term, bet on quality equipment that can last you 15 years or more. Practical and durable taps, sinks with a lifetime guarantee, a good extractor hood… It may seem like a significant expense at first, but in the long run it is a worthwhile investment.
