The entrance, the balcony and the storage room: things you keep there and you shouldn’t

They are spaces to which we do not pay enough attention and in which, over time, we accumulate too much. These tips from the Academy of Order will help you avoid it

There are spaces in our home that we convert into makeshift warehouses. From what seems like another day, the drawers of the hall console are full of papers, invoices and various objects of dubious origin. The storage room is almost a warehouse of old, broken objects that you haven’t used for years. And, even, your balcony only serves to pile things up. Goodbye to all those plans you had for him! To solve it and enjoy these spaces in your home again, we give you some advice from the Academy of Order so that each space recovers its splendor.

THE ENTRANCE, YOUR BEST FACE

They say that the face is the mirror of the soul. Well, the same happens with the hall of your house. It is not only the first thing your guests see when they visit, but what you see when you leave and enter daily. Therefore, it is also normal for things to accumulate. From The Academy of Order, they offer us several recommendations:

The coat rack: “Do a weekly review of the coat rack so that various items and accessories do not accumulate under each other.” Too many jackets and coats will make you feel cluttered and make too much visual noise.

The console: check everything that does not fit in place. “Look at what’s in the drawers and throw away all the things you don’t need. Maybe, it is a good idea to get an organizer or baskets for the drawers ”, they recommend from their website. Also arrange the surface. To make it more cozy, add a vase with flowers or some decoration, but without abusing.

The bank: if you keep your backpacks and shoes in a cabinet at the entrance, check out those that are in season and those that are not. Likewise, if they are broken, old, or have become small, get rid of them. Do you know when the shoes have to be thrown away?

What do I do with the keys? Choose a small basket or tray and place it on the console. It will serve so that you have a fixed place where you can leave the sets of keys, as well as protect the furniture material. Another option is to store them in an organizer in one of the drawers.

Throw, donate or give away: there are many things left in your hall, check this list and free yourself! Discard everything that is not useful. Your day to day will be easier.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR BALCONY

It is a window to the outside, so don’t make it a storage room or its extension! You know, you are lucky. So there is no point in using this fantastic space as a storage area. From The Academy of Order they explain: “Sometimes we misuse them, ending up with elements that either do not fit inside the house or we do not know what to do with them.” It should also be borne in mind that, being outdoors – even if the balcony is covered – things will end up spoiling with humidity, cold and UV rays.

Chests and cabinets, usually made of resin, become makeshift containers for toys, tools and even paint cans. To restore its splendor, order it step by step:

Check what’s in all the cabinets or chests. According to these professional organizers, “there may be many things that we no longer need and we have forgotten that they were there.”

Decide what to do with the things you kept on the balcony. “Check what condition they are in and make a decision about them,” they clarify. There will be things that you can give away or donate and others that you have to throw away. If you don’t know where they are going, go to a clean spot. There they have containers for absolutely everything.

Check how the cabinets are and if they can hold another season and clean them well.

Take advantage of space. There are a thousand possibilities to decorate a balcony. But with a bench, a folding set and an umbrella, it will be enough to enjoy it – at least more than before. Do not forget to add some tasty cushions so that the effect is 10.

Use the cabinets to store precisely those objects that you use on the balcony.

THE STOREROOM, MORE POSSIBILITIES THAN YOU IMAGINE

How long have you ordered the storage room? Do you even know what you have? For most, the storage room is that place where we store a thousand and one things. And the worst thing is that we don’t even know what we have there! That is the great disadvantage of the storage rooms. In the end, we end up saving things that we don’t even know we have. Clothes that we no longer use, suitcases, tools, camping things … “even small broken appliances that we keep, in case, at some point, we can fix them,” they add from The Academy of Order. “In the end, more than a place to store things, we use it as a hiding place for everything that bothers us to have in sight.

Things that, for some reason, you don’t want to get rid of ”, they add. To make it a practical space and take advantage of storage, here are some recommendations.

no more so that it is not tedious and you abandon in the middle.

If you have instruments, clothing made of natural fabrics or flammable products, it is better that you remove them from the storage room, either because they can be damaged or because they are dangerous. But there are more things that you should not keep in the storage room.

Take out what you have and value if you do not use or need it or if you will in the future. If the ‘no’ is triple, donate it or give it away. If it is heavily powdered, throw it away. “Question whether everything you keep should be there,” they clarify.

Put things in boxes. According to IKEA, “they will not collect dust and will remain intact until the following season.”

And tag them. That way, when you are looking for something you will not have to stir everything and you will find it the first time.

If, afterwards, you follow these tips you will avoid having to reorder every so often. Remember that one of the keys to the order is that “the one who orders the most is not the most ordered, but the one who least disorganizes.” At least they affirm it from The Academy of Order. And we love that maxim!
