Keys to a happy house or how to quarantine with the best possible mood and well-being

We are living in very hard times. The bad news is daily and overcomes the concern for the well-being of our environment and for the future that awaits the economy and employment. But positive lessons can always be drawn from the adverse circumstances of life.

For example, the coronavirus pandemic can lead us to serious reflection to encourage teleworking in those sectors that allow it. And in turn, being 24 hours at home is an opportunity for us to realize some aspects related to comfort in our day to day. And the first thing is to ask ourselves if we are happy at home.

Or, in other words, how does the decoration and other aspects of our home influence our mood?

According to the study on the attitudes of the Spanish population towards home decoration, IKERFEL, more than 90% of people consider order at home very important to save time and have a more organized life; and more than 70% affirm that decoration influences their degree of creativity and well-being.

Therefore, it is not a trivial matter, although sometimes we do not give this a lot of importance. But what are the factors to have a happy home and overcome the quarantine in the best possible mood?

Plan the space
She most important thing … especially if you are spending these days in company! Despite the fact that the house is small, and even if it only has one room, it is necessary to create ‘corners’ to do different activities: work, sports, leisure … The workspace should not be in transit areas, it will be easier to get distracted ! If you are with a partner or children, make sure that the space where you spend time together has a pleasant light, comfortable seats, etc.

Neither cold nor heat
This is valid for the whole year, but during the quarantine, which we are going to be at home all day, takes on special importance. The ideal temperature for this time of year is 21º C. If you have a timer, take advantage of this obligatory break to set it up correctly, and thus be comfortable at home without wasting energy. In addition, you can lower this temperature at night to 15-19º degrees to reduce the bill since our body does not need as much heat at night and it will rest better.

Ventilation
Maintaining optimal air quality in our home is always essential, but much more if we are going to spend many days without leaving it. The most effective way is to ventilate several times a day to renew the air, and for this we propose the simplest and fastest way to do it: by opening two ‘opposite’ windows for just 5 minutes, and thus allowing air to pass from one space to the other. other. If you do not have opposite windows, it is always better to open everything at once to create airflow, but if it is very cold you can always ventilate rooms, although it will be advisable to do it a little longer … The best, about 15 minutes, 3 times a day.

Take advantage of available light
Especially if you are working from home, your ‘office’ should be close to the points with the most natural light and, if possible, entering from your left (or from your right if you are left-handed). On the contrary, if too much light enters and you are, for example, watching TV, you can tint it with curtains or blinds to avoid annoying reflections. Although you surely know well where the light enters your home best and at what times, as a general rule in Spain, the North and South orientations are usually very good for studying or working, since they have indirect light throughout the day, while the east and west orientations have more direct light during morning or afternoon respectively. Use these details to place your office inside the house.

Value Silence
In a happy home, you should only hear what you want to hear. I mean, music and conversations are welcome, but hearing about your neighbor’s or listening to street traffic is quite annoying.

In Spain, in general, we pay little attention and invest little in soundproofing our homes. You may never have noticed, but if you detect these annoyances during these days, don’t hesitate to look for the solution after the quarantine.
